Who the project is aimed at
Farmers and agricultural advisors, particularly in olive and vineyard cultivation. It also involves agricultural businesses that already have advanced technology and researchers interested in adopting precision farming practices.
Project objective
To promote the adoption of new technologies to improve the application of plant protection products by adjusting application rates according to crop vigour. This will help reduce pesticide use, in line with the European Farm to Fork Strategy.
Project description
The project builds on the results of the PIVOS project, which established a procedure for generating vigour maps using remote sensing technologies (drones and satellites) and converting them into prescription maps for variable-rate pesticide application. These tools will be implemented on two commercial farms (one olive grove and one vineyard) using sprayers equipped with PWM technology. During the first growing season, drones will be used, while satellite imagery will be used during the second. Application rates will always be adjusted with the support of decision-support systems (such as the Dosaviña app or intelligent systems derived from PIVOS). Biological efficacy against relevant diseases (such as olive leaf spot and downy mildew) will be validated in accordance with EPPO guidelines. Finally, a training activity will be organised to facilitate the adoption of the technology.
