Project: AGRISAT. Training in smart agriculture through the integration of the latest GIS / remote sensing (RS) technology.

Who the project is aimed at

Producers, entrepreneurs and upper secondary school, undergraduate and master's students from the European Union and neighbouring partner countries, including Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia, who are interested in smart agriculture.

Project objective

To offer an innovative curriculum in smart agriculture through the integration of the latest GIS / remote sensing (RS) technology to promote innovative and more efficient crop management.

Project description

Remote sensing integrated with wireless sensors deployed in a GIS environment can provide valuable information (soil moisture, crop phenology, nutrient deficiencies, crop diseases, pests, ...) that enables an information- and technology-based agricultural management system and improves crop production efficiency by adjusting agricultural inputs to specific conditions.

Remote sensing technologies capture and measure soil or crop health using data obtained from Earth observation satellites and airborne drones. Biomass within the field can also be measured, and crop development can be monitored over several seasons to manage fertiliser application.
