Who is the project aimed at
All residents of Sant Boi, particularly those interested in sustainability, improving public spaces and environmental health. The project also actively involves local social, environmental, educational and healthcare organisations, as well as research centres and academic institutions, with the aim of building a collaborative model for a green and resilient city.
Project objective
To establish a new urban green space model that is more biodiverse, well-managed and adapted to climate change, making Sant Boi a benchmark for a healthy, sustainable city connected to its natural surroundings. The project aims to transform the municipality's green and blue infrastructure to enhance its quality, functionality and environmental and social benefits.
Project description
This is a strategic and transformative project that promotes the planning, expansion and improvement of the city's green and blue infrastructure. This infrastructure includes landscaped areas, tree-lined corridors, shaded areas, school playgrounds, community gardens and other urban natural spaces that provide essential services such as improved air quality, thermal comfort and enhanced biodiversity.
With a grant of €3.74 million funded by the European NextGenerationEU fund, SBR+V will enable the creation or renovation of 65,000 m² of green spaces during 2024 and 2025, while defining a renaturalisation strategy for the future.
Key actions include:
-
Creating and improving urban green spaces.
-
Strengthening existing green spaces through new tree planting.
-
Renaturalising school playgrounds and community gardens.
-
Setting up a living laboratory for urban agriculture.
-
Educational and participatory activities to raise awareness and engage citizens.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with CREAF, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu, thereby strengthening strategic partnerships for research, innovation and urban green space management.
SBR+V promotes active citizen participation through open processes and educational activities, fostering a greener city and greater awareness of the environmental and social value of its natural surroundings.
