Project: Harvest transport cableway
Who is the project aimed at
It is aimed at developing communities with limited resources. Specifically, the project focuses on designing and installing a cableway-type aerial transport system for loading and transporting harvested products in a mountainous environment.
Project objective
The objective of the project is to design a system for transporting agri-food products between two villages in Nepal. The villages are located at different altitudes in very steep terrain. Another challenge of the project is “in-context” design, that is, adapting the system design to the community's economic, material and technological resources. Therefore, one of the project requirements is that the system must not consume electrical or fossil energy and must be capable of being manufactured on site.
Project description
The need for this project arises in Nepal, specifically in farming communities where the level of automation and mechanisation is non-existent or very low. In other words, agricultural work is carried out using the labour of workers and domestic animals. The project focuses on transporting crops and agri-food products between two villages located in very mountainous areas, separated by steep gradients, rugged terrain and dangerous routes. The objective is to improve the efficiency and safety of agri-food product transport between the two villages through a mechanical system.
To achieve this, one of the project's major challenges must be taken into account: the communities' context, the availability of trained personnel and manufacturing materials, and the area's economic and physical resources, all of which will shape and constrain the design options for the solution. The project will result in a manually operated cableway-type aerial transport system designed and installed between the two villages.
