Research group: GEMMA Group of Environmental Engineering and Microbiology
Project: Transnational cooperation project to promote the conservation and protection of the natural heritage of the wine sector in the SUDOE area
Who is the project aimed at
Wineries, winegrowers, professionals and ancillary companies in the wine sector, business associations, sectoral representative organisations, and other entities interested in wine industry waste management.
Research groups, technology centres, technology service companies and spin-offs offering scientific and technological solutions for the wine sector.
Public bodies and organisations at local, regional, national and European levels involved in decision-making on regulations related to wine industry waste management.
Media, economic stakeholders and society in general.
Project objective
This is a pilot experience based on anaerobic digestion and constructed wetlands for water and sludge treatment, which promotes the rational use of resources and their recovery, resulting in a vineyard fertiliser that will limit waste generation and soil and water pollution in our region.
The specific objectives of the project are summarised as follows:
- Validate a waste recovery system for wineries
- Obtain a high-quality fertiliser
- Transfer and disseminate the technology, while raising environmental awareness.
Project description
Waste management systems for waste generated by the wine industry represent a significant economic burden for wineries and distilleries, as well as an environmental problem throughout the South-West European region. Consequently, there is growing demand for new solutions that enable efficient management and provide alternatives for recovering value from wine industry waste, producing value-added by-products.
Project funded by the Community Initiative concerning transnational cooperation in spatial planning and regional development.
