Research group: WNG. Wireless Network Research Group
Project: LORA Network
Who is the project aimed at?
IoT solution developers, researchers, technology companies and institutions working with LoRa communications that require flexible, scalable and bidirectional infrastructure for IoT networks. It is also relevant to applications seeking to integrate IoT devices with services hosted on the Internet.
Project objective
To develop an open-source library that enables multi-hop data routing and peer-to-peer communications in IoT networks based on LoRa technology, thereby facilitating device interconnection and the provision of advanced services in IoT applications.
To deploy a LoRa (long-range) network with flow measurement devices to gain a better understanding of the hydrodynamics of rivers in the river basin.
Project description
This is a pioneering library that enables the creation of mesh networks using LoRa technology. It is the first open-source library to implement a multi-hop routing protocol to facilitate bidirectional communication between IoT devices. With LoRaMesher, connected devices can exchange data not only with one another but also with applications hosted on the Internet, allowing the IoT layer to move beyond unidirectional communication (data transmission only) and receive instructions, updates and action commands as well. This opens the door to more dynamic and interactive services. This project is part of the European LoRaTRUST project and involves collaboration with HackingEcology S.L. (Spain) and Puretek Innovations LTD (United Kingdom), which use LoRaMesher as a communication infrastructure for IoT devices. LoRaMesher was developed at UPC in 2022 and is already operational in real-world environments. Its scalable, easy-to-integrate architecture makes it an essential tool for anyone looking to develop advanced IoT applications using LoRa technology. The code is publicly available in a GitHub repository. .
